This week’s Tiny Sparks activity helps kids explore chemistry and medicine, inspired by Amanda, a Quality Assurance Specialist who helps make sure medicine is safe for people to use!

Have you ever taken medicine when you were sick and started to feel better?
Before that medicine gets to you, scientists and specialists like Amanda work very carefully to test, check, and make sure everything is safe.
They mix ingredients, observe changes, and double-check their work—kind of like being a science detective AND a builder at the same time!
Tonight, your family will become Mini Medicine Makers 🧪✨
🔬 Family Activity: Mix, Observe, Check!
What you need:
Water
Clear cups (2–3)
Food coloring
Sugar or salt
Spoon
Step 1: Create Your “Mixture”
Fill a cup with water.
Add a few drops of food coloring.
Ask your child:👉 “What do you notice happening?”
Explain: Scientists mix ingredients just like this—but they have to be VERY careful!
Step 2: Add an Ingredient
Add a spoonful of sugar or salt and stir.
Ask:👉 “Did it disappear or change?”
Explain:“When something mixes into another thing, it’s called dissolving. Scientists study these changes to make sure everything works the right way.”
Step 3: Safety Check! ✅
Now pretend you're Amanda!
Ask your child to “check” the mixture:
✔ Does it look the same all the way through?
✔ Did everything mix evenly?
✔ Would you say it’s ready?
Explain: “Before medicine is used, people like Amanda check EVERYTHING to make sure it’s safe.”
🧠 Tiny Learning Moment
Explain to kids:
Chemistry is about how things mix and change
Scientists test things before people use them
Medicine is carefully made to help people feel better
Quality specialists make sure everything is safe, clean, and correct
Even small details matter in science!
💬 Family Conversation Starters
Ask your Tiny Scientist:
What do you think would happen if scientists didn’t check their work?
Why is it important for medicine to be safe?
What other things do you think scientists mix together?
Would you want to be a “science checker” like Amanda?
⭐ Tiny Sparks Challenge
Be a Science Checker all day!
Look for things that mix or change:
When you pour a drink
When you cook
When you wash your hands
Say: “Safety check!” and explain what you notice 👀
